What relevance does studying primary documents (Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God) have in correlation to novels (like the crucible)? How does it add to your understanding of Puritans and the crucible?

studying primary documents is like reading a personal story. you know exactly what happens in there eyes. reading the document actually made me see how bad the witch trials actually were. if you were being called a witch the trial was not fair at all.

It helped to gain an understanding of a detail in the Crucible that I wouldn't have other wise known about it. Also it can help go into a certain detail in the book that we can't go into very deep reading the book.

It shows what the Puritans believed. If you did anything that was sinful you were a horrible person and you were going to Hell if you didn't ask God for forgiveness.

It gives me more information on how others felt during the witch trials. Different people with different lives tell you from their perspective.

I think that studying primary documents allows us to get a better understanding as to what was believed back when this event occurred. These sources allowed us to see the background in why these things happened the way that they did.

It helped me understand how they believed that only a select few were saved because in primary documents it explained how god was always angry at sinners. It helped me understand why the Puritans were always paranoid.

It helps open your mind about what’s really going on around the world and it helps understand what life was like before and how different they thought of things then most of us do today and what their beliefs were

It is very important to learn about these primary documents, as well as reading novels such as the crucible because they go hand in hand together. In the crucible, we think that the puritans are a little too crazy about religion. In the primary documents, it is confirmed that this group of people was very strict and very uptight about religion. It gives an insight about Puritan life and how they live in constant fear. All they needed was a spark to start the fire of the Salem witch trials.

The way both texts relate to each other is that it shows the puritans way to religious and they believed everything. Like they dreamed someone was the devil and they told and everyone believed they were with God it was messed up times

Reading the primary document made the speeches dark and dull. The people in the Crusibul thought they were the chosen ones. The Puritans where simple and did not have any excetment.

These documents gives you a greater understanding of how Reverend Paris focused his sermons more on the wrath of god instead of the grace of god. In Salem they learned more about the devil's traps and tricks. After reading these documents you understand why the witch trials occurred because they were centered on the devil cursing the people ;disregarding god's grace and fair justice.

Studying primary documents from the time of the witch trails gives us a better understanding of exactly what was going through people's heads at the time, as well as what they believed in and what really happened to the people during that time.

It helped me be able to relate the story to the crucible because it showed how puritans believed that god would chose everyone’s destiny and that he has a plan for everyone that can’t be changed. Also that it showed how the puritans were paranoid that they’d go to hell if they unpleased god

I think it shows how uptight and strict they were with everything, in sinners in the hands of an angry God it’s basically stating that God will punish you even if you mess up in the slightest way and that is what the puritans believed

It shows more broadly what exactly was happening during that time! Just like I’m history class we study things we know about it now, and things we knew back then. I think it just provides a better view for an imagination of that period of time

To me seeing these personal accounts and then reading the crucible it is a whole other story. Because in the crucible it focuses on the whole town of Salem, but with the personal story's you see the full thing and I believe you get more detail on how the witch trials actually were.

The primary documents give you a better understanding of their religion and why they believed what they did. It also helps explain why they started the witch trials, to get rid of perceived evil in their communities because they were afraid of being associated with evil and going to hell.

It shows just how negative and judgmental the puritans were of themselves and others, how much they criticized themselves in order to be “gods” version of perfection.

I think that by reading primary documents gives you a better understand if books such as “The Crucible” by giving you a better understanding of their culture and traditions. Which would make their actions more explainable. It also gives you a better understanding of background information to help with the context of the book.

It helps get a better understanding on what people during the crucible times went through and how unfair it was. It also shows how the puritans thought of themselves as perfect and how they treated people who weren't as "pure" as they were.
